SEASONAL LIVING FROM OUR PORCH TO YOURS

Spring on the Homestead

Spring is underway on the homestead, and the pace of things has picked up considerably. The greenhouse is where most of my mornings start right now. Seed trays are lined up under the grow lights, and I am checking on them daily to see who has decided to show up overnight. Tomatoes, peppers, and flowers are all underway, and there is a quiet satisfaction in watching something small push up through the soil after you have been tending snow and cold for months.

Michigan is still negotiating between winter and spring, which anyone who has lived here knows is just how it goes. Some mornings feel like a genuine thaw and others pull the cold right back in.

Outside the greenhouse the garden beds are coming back into focus. I have been slowly clearing out the old growth from last season and getting a better look at what is happening in the soil. It is softer now than it was a few weeks ago, which is a good sign. The cleanup is steady, satisfying work and it feels good to be out there with my hands in it again after a long winter.
This stretch of the season is less about harvesting and more about preparing. Starting seeds on the right schedule, getting beds ready, paying attention to what the land needs before the real growing begins. It is not glamorous work but it is the foundation of everything that comes later, and I have learned to appreciate it for exactly that.

Welcome to Fallow & Blossom

Warmly, Amanda

Spring time on the homestead

What's in Season

Our homestead is waking beneath the gentle stretch of spring. The garden beds are stirring, the fields are greening, and the air feels alive with promise. This season my heart is leaning toward the light, savoring the quiet return of birdsong and longer days.
